As a traffic stop was ordered for a black 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt after police noticed it had an expired registration plate, the passenger, Shawn Robertson Jr., got out of the car and fled on foot near Edgemont Avenue, City of Chester police said.
Despite orders to stop, Robertson led police on a foot pursuit and fled from police view when he got to West 22nd Street, police said.
With the help of a police K-9, an officer was able to locate Robertson hiding under the rear porch of a home on West 23rd Street, police said.
A search of the porch turned up Robertson's black sweatshirt, a black backpack, and a Ruger Security 9mm pistol containing one live round of ammunition in the chamber and 9 rounds in the magazine, police said.
A closer inspection of the firearm revealed that the serial number was removed, and the backpack was found with packaged marijuana, police said.
A check of Robertson in N.C.I.C. revealed that he is a convicted felon, thus prohibiting him from possessing a firearm, police said.
Robertson was charged with firearm violations and related offenses.
He was arraigned by District Justice Robert R. Burke and his bail was set at 10% of $100,000.
Robertson was committed to George W. Hill Correctional Facility where he will await a preliminary hearing scheduled for May 10.
